Our Up and coming Apprentice Mia – Blog
Mia is 17 years old and is our up & coming apprentice, she started her hairdressing career straight from school. Starting of with a Saturday assistant position working up to her current journey of an NVQ Level 2 hairdressing apprenticeship. Mia is motivated, hardworking and constantly looking for ways to improve with her training.
What made you want to be a hairstylist, and what route did you choose?
I’ve always been into hair and wasn’t interested in higher education, I wanted a practical career and something that’s never the same thing. With hairdressing you’re constantly training and learning new things. I choose an apprenticeship because of the in salon training and the salon experience.
Is there anything you would like to specialise in?
I really enjoy all aspects of colouring and I would love to focus more into this! In the future I would love to go on professional courses to specialise in colour.
What’s your favourite service to do so far & why?
Definitely Colouring! I love all aspects of colouring but I really enjoy doing Full Head colours. I love the creativity and every client is different.
If someone was asking you if they should do a hairdressing apprenticeship what advice would you give them?
Focus on everything you need to do, get assessments done and continue to practise services even when you’ve passed off the assessments. Hairdressing is not an easy job you need to put the work in. Practise and be prepared to learn all the time as there’s constantly new things that come up in the industry whether that’s new products or new services.
What’s your favourite hair trend at the moment?
I’m really loving the red & copper comeback. We went on a Loreal professional course recently and one of the looks was a stunning red, it was very inspiring and I loved the creativity.
what’s your favourite product in the salon?
I absolutely love L’ Oreal professional Fluidifier Blow-dry cream. I love the muti-benefits it has and is great for clients who go over there hair in-between washes as the heat protection stays in the hair until washed out.
Mia needs models for her training and this is at a discounted price.
